A little about me
A few months ago, my friend posed a question to our dinner party, asking, “If money wasn’t an issue, what would you choose to do with your life?” I puzzled for a moment, and smiled to myself. I said, “I would do what I’m doing now!”
I have always been inspired by architecture. From a young age, I was amazed at the quiet yet encompassing impact architecture has on our lives. I thought, “If all the world’s a stage, could I be a set designer?” This intrigue turned into a passion after I traveled to Rome the summer after eighth grade and I never turned back!
Architecture school turned out to be very different than anything I could have imagined and I loved every second (even the sleepless nights in studio). I had the general impression that architecture was drawing and art, but with math involved. Looking back, this is a silly thought. Architecture is much more complicated than that, but it is difficult to put into words. However, I read once somewhere that, “Architecture is at once a science and an art.” And that is the best and simplest way I have ever seen it written
Now, I am a graduate from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo with a degree in architecture, and I have four years of experience as an architectural designer. I am close to getting my architecture license in California, with only two requirements remaining!
My favorite thing about architecture is that it is never boring. I am always learning and churning ideas in my head - everyday is different! My last four years in the field have given me a lot of practical and technical knowledge. I have worked on architectural plans and details, developed conceptual renders, and administered thorough code research for preliminary design. I have touched every phase of the design process, working with an internal team as well as a client. On top of that, I have a hefty foundation of knowledge from studying for my architecture licensing exams. I believe I am in a prime position to launch my career and I am excited to see what opportunities await.
